I am very blessed to be able to travel. I recently spent some time on the Riviera Maya, Mexico beside the emerald waters of the Caribbean. Every morning we would walk the beach and every morning we would be greeted by a flock of Pelicans flying over us only to find them all sitting on the pier of our resort when we got back. We started referring to them as “the Squadron”. They reminded us of the pilots in those old war movies.
Pelicans fly in a V formation like geese, however, they don’t flap their wings like geese do. They glide like eagles – sometimes just inches above the water. They are silent as stealth planes. And when they see a fish below them they just fold their wings in and nose-dive straight into the water! We could watch them for hours.
We looked forward to seeing our Pelican friends each morning and now that we are back to the snow and cold of Canada I find myself missing them.
So, here’s to you, boys! May your skies be clear and the fish plentiful!
